Preliminary Year

Our program is Advanced and does not include a guaranteed preliminary (PGY-1) year, so applicants must apply separately for a preliminary position in Medicine. We coordinate a number of jointly offered med-neuro preliminary positions with three local programs: up to 10 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), up to 8 at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), and up to 2 at Salem Hospital (formerly North Shore Medical Center), with Salem positions intended to support international medical graduates (IMGs). These tracks are designed for applicants invited to interview with us, but as our program is not Categorical, these positions are not guaranteed and must be applied to separately. BWH and MGH interviews are scheduled for the Wednesday before the Thursday neurology interview. We encourage applicants to apply broadly to preliminary medicine programs both within and outside of Mass General Brigham.
